Servicing and Repairing your Rogowski Current Probe

At PEM, we are committed to ensuring that your equipment performs reliably over its lifetime, supporting critical applications in power electronics and electrical engineering. Our repair services are carried out by our expert team at our dedicated laboratory in the UK where we provide a comprehensive service and strive to provide a quick turn-around. Due to the global nature of our customer base we have robust import/export procedures for receiving your probe for servicing or calibration wherever you are in the world.

All servicing and repairs are undertaken by PEM at its premises in the UK.  If your PEM Rogowski probe requires recalibration, please see our Calibration service.

Eligibility for Repairs

We pride ourselves on our commitment to long-term customer support. Our repair services typically extend for an average of 10 years from the date of product obsolescence, ensuring that our customers can rely on their probes for an extended period. However, it's important to note that the exact duration of support may vary depending on the specific probe model and the current status of our supply chain at the time of the repair.

In cases where a probe is beyond repair due to age or unavailability of components, our team will recommend a suitable replacement from our current portfolio, ensuring that you can continue your operations with minimal disruption.

Repair Process

To determine if your unit qualifies for repair, please provide the following information to our team at [email protected]

  • Probe model.
  • Serial number.
  • Brief description of the issue.

Our team will assess your probe’s eligibility and provide further instructions.

When Coil Replacement is Necessary

Coil damage can lead to deterioration in measurement consistency. Where a Rogowski coil becomes kinked, crushed or otherwise mechanically damaged, this can cause the coil sensitivity to vary significantly as the conductor position is varied within the closed Rogowski coil loop, and coil replacement should be considered in such instances. In some cases, coil replacement may be the only viable option for repair. This is particularly true for coils with:

  • Broken Windings
Damaged windings render the unit inoperable. If the windings are broken, replacing the coil is essential to restore functionality.

  • Visible Damage
Even if the unit is operational, any visible damage to the coil should prompt consideration for replacement, as this may affect measurement integrity.

Reasons for Coil Replacement

Several critical factors highlight the importance of coil replacement in cases of significant wear or damage:

  • Insulation Integrity
PEM Rogowski coils come with a guaranteed insulation rating. If the insulation is visibly compromised, this rating can no longer be maintained, potentially impacting safety and reliability.

  • Loop Closure
Accurate readings rely on a secure, minimal-discontinuity closure of the Rogowski loop at the clip-together mechanism. If this mechanism is damaged and prevents full closure, coil replacement is strongly recommended to ensure consistent performance.
